Prof Ben Varcoe

Ben is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leeds and Chair of Experimental Quantum Information Science.
He is a fellow of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and member of its College of experts. From 1997-2001 he worked at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Germany where he led a team that saw the world’s first unambiguous demonstration of photon quantisation. Ben is one of the leading experimentalists of precision measurements in the UK and has applied the principles of quantum metrology to a number of applications, including magnetocardiography.
